Cody Garrett

Java Johnny’s second concert of 2018 took place on Friday, February 23 featuring Middletown native Cody Garrett.

Cody held his own as the evening’s sole act, performing more than two hours’ worth of acoustic covers as well as his own original songs. Some of Cody’s most memorable covers included Prince’s “Purple Rain,” “It’s A Great Day to be Alive” by Travis Tritt, R. Kelly’s “Ignition (Remix),” and “Mr. Brightside” by the Killers. While this isn’t all of the songs Cody Garrett covered, it’s easy to see that he can take just about any kind of music and make it his own. If you ever have any requests, don’t hesitate to ask him! Cody also played some music from his debut EP, Outskirts. He sounded especially great on “Nowhere but Home,” a song in which he entertains the idea of leaving his country life in Ohio for warmer skies, but ultimately knows this is where he belongs.

We would like to thank Cody Garrett for taking the time to showcase his talents at our café! Cody said it was a blast, and we agree as well! It would be an absolute pleasure to have him play music here in the future.

Cody Garrett will be hosting an Open Mic event at West Central Wine on March 15. To keep up with his future shows, you can find information on his website.

The next Java Johnny’s concert will be on March 9, featuring bluegrass heroes My Brother’s Keeper. They will be joined by Andrew Hibbard and St. Mary, St. Michael.
